About the project

What does it mean to mourn at a time when social media profiles, online memorials, and digital archives leave persistent traces of the dead online?

This project explores people's experiences using digital platforms as they mourn. We are particularly interested in how people are using technology to maintain continuing bonds with loved ones who have passed away. We are hopeful that this research will improve understandings of contemporary grief, as well as contributing to anthropological inquiries into mourning rituals and the impact of technology on relationships. We look forward to sharing these results with you at the conclusion of the research.
